The TP-Link TL-SL1218MP, fundamentally, is a 16-Port 10/100 Mbps + 2-Port Gigabit Rackmount Switch with 16-Port PoE+.

To detail its port configuration, it offers 16× PoE+ 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports. These are, therefore, the core ports for connecting Fast Ethernet devices. Indeed, all 16 ports are fully 802.3at/af-compliant PoE+, capable of delivering up to 30W per port. Furthermore, for higher bandwidth needs, it includes 2× Gigabit RJ45 ports. These provide, therefore, full Gigabit speeds for uplink connections to the main network or for connecting high-bandwidth devices like NVRs or servers. Additionally, there are 2× combo Gigabit SFP slots. These flexible slots, in turn, share bandwidth with the two Gigabit RJ45 ports and crucially, allow for fiber optic connections, thereby extending network reach over long distances using compatible SFP modules.

A significant advantage is its high PoE power budget, with up to 30 W for each PoE port and a substantial 250 W for all PoE ports. This generous capacity, therefore, makes it highly suitable for powering numerous PoE+ devices simultaneously.

Specifically for surveillance systems, the TL-SL1218MP offers tailored functionalities. For instance, under Extend Mode, it enables up to 250 m data and power transmission. This capability, therefore, is specially designed for surveillance systems, allowing for greater flexibility in camera placement. Furthermore, a dedicated Priority Mode for ports 1–8 actively guarantees the quality of sensitive applications like video monitoring. This ensures, consequently, smoother video quality even under heavy network traffic, preventing dropped frames or lag. Moreover, the Isolation Mode simplifies network security by allowing one-click client traffic separation for ports 1-16. This effectively isolates traffic between these ports, thus preventing snooping and tampering and enhancing security by segregating broadcast domains.
